These units can be suspended above flat or troughed belt conveyors. Large permanent magnet packs generate deep-penetrating magnetic fields that attract and remove moving pieces of steel.
This type of unit is much cheaper to buy than electromagnetic units and has no running costs other than cleaning.
At the installation point, steel belt idlers may need to be replaced with non-magnetic rollers, as they can absorb part of the magnetic field.
