Film fill spreads the water into thin films over large plastic surfaces, giving the highest heat transfer per volume. The flute geometry is chosen to match the water quality: tight cross-flute patterns for clean water, open offset or vertical flutes where fouling is a risk.
Cross-fluted fill gives the best thermal performance where the water is clean and well treated, allowing compact towers or lower cold-water temperatures.
Offset-flute and vertical-flute fill tolerate higher suspended solids and biological fouling, keeping performance stable between cleanings. For very dirty water choose splash fill or hybrid fill.
