Crowcon IREX
Crowcon IREX | ATEX Zone 1 & Zone 2 Hazardous Areas & Explosive Atmospheres
Obsolete | This gas detection product has now been made obsolete by Crowcon – view complete range of available gas detectors. Suggested replacements are Crowcon IRmax and Crowcon Xgard IQ
The Crowcon IREX fixed gas detector is an infrared (IR) flammable gas detector which is designed specifically to replace pellistor (catalytic bead) type flammable gas detectors.
The IREX concept enables upgrades to dual-wavelength IR gas detector technology without incurring the very significant costs associated with replacing the control system and re-installation.
IREX fixed gas detector consume less than 1W of power ensuring compatibility with a wide range of control systems and are dependable with T90 response times of less than 4 seconds, providing a rapid indication of hydrocarbon gas hazards.
The IREX fixed gas detector is also water and dust resistant to IP66. Crowcon IREX is a certified Flameproof (Exd) detector suitable for use in ATEX Zone 1 or Zone 2 hazardous areas.
Key Features
- IR Technology – The Crowcon IREX uses IR technology instead of pellistor gas sensors which require less maintenance, don’t require oxygen, less likely to burn out and don’t need to be operated behind a sinter (flame arrestor)
- Low Power Consumption – The IREX consumes less than 1W of power
- Reliability – Independently tested for reliability and performance in harsh offshore conditions by Micropack Engineering Ltd and approved to EN60079-29-1
- Maintenance – No adjustments made to the detector all are performed at the control panel and tests can be applied remotely via a tube to the standard weather cover
Crowcon IREX Bump Testing & Calibration
Routine bump testing is recommended for the range of Crowcon fixed gas detectors prior to each use. Bump testing is a brief application of a gas to the sensor to invoke a prescribed reaction, ensuring the gas detector reacts as expected.
Bump testing provides a quick, easy and direct method of verifying gas detectors are performing as required and takes a lot less time than ‘zeroing’ the device.
The bump test is widely accepted as a suitable method of testing gas detection equipment.
