The recycling, mining and heavy industries continue to benefit from permanent-magnet overband units for removing metal contaminants.
These units can be suspended above flat or troughed belt conveyors. Large permanent magnet packs generate deep-penetrating magnetic fields that attract moving pieces of steel.
This type of unit is far more economical to buy and to run than electromagnetic units. Only the self-cleaning belt drive uses electrical power.
At the installation point, steel belt idlers may need to be replaced with non-magnetic rollers, as they can absorb part of the magnetic field.
