Single reduction right-angle gearboxes turn the horizontal motor shaft through 90° to drive the vertical fan shaft. They suit small and medium cooling tower fans and are available as direct replacements for the original drives of most tower makes.
One stage of spiral bevel gears gives quiet running and high efficiency. An anti-reverse device prevents the fan from windmilling backwards.
