Product Overview
The BFW BVL RL ram-spindle series is a heavy-duty vertical turning lathe for large, heavy workpieces. Built on a solid casting, it handles turning, boring and turn-mill operations, with a C axis for indexing and an automatic tool changer that let you complete more of the part on one machine.
Ram design for deep boring
A 220 mm square ram with BT50 tool clamping and hydraulic counterbalance reaches deep into the part, enabling boring up to 800 mm deep with stability.
Turn-mill capability
The table spindle includes a C axis with a high-resolution hollow-shaft encoder for accurate indexing, drilling and tapping. Add the live spindle on the ram (11 / 15 kW, 50–2400 rpm, 220 Nm) and the continuous Cf axis, driven by two motors with electronic preload, for interpolated milling. A heavy-duty right-angle head handles radial drilling and keyway milling.
Three sizes
The BVL 800 RL, 1000 RL and 1200 RL turn up to 900, 1100 and 1350 mm in diameter, with swings of 1100, 1300 and 1600 mm and 825 mm Z travel. Table speeds reach 450 rpm (350 rpm on the 1200 RL), and C-axis positioning accuracy is 36 arc seconds.
Production features
A 12-tool servo ATC, hinged steel-belt chip conveyor, large crossed-roller table bearing and table clamping during cutting are part of the design. Options include through-spindle coolant at 16 bar, linear scales and a workpiece probe. For simpler turning, see the BVL H hydraulic-turret VTL.

What is the advantage of a ram-spindle VTL?
The ram carries tools deep into large parts for boring and, with a live spindle, milling and drilling, so more operations are completed in one setup.
How deep can the BVL RL bore?
Deep boring applications up to 800 mm are possible.
Does the BVL RL have a C axis?
Yes. A C axis for indexing, drilling and tapping is standard; a continuous Cf axis for interpolation is optional.
