Product Overview

The BFW Helix Y is a turn-mill centre that combines turning and milling on one machine. Its Y axis with ±50 mm travel lets driven tools mill flats, slots, off-centre holes and pockets, so parts that used to go from the lathe to a machining centre can be completed in a single setup.

Stiffness for turn-mill work

The monoblock bed and saddle use a 30° + 45° inclined geometry designed for structural rigidity with a Y axis. Class H guideways and Class C3 ball screws, plus laser calibration and ballbar testing, keep turning and milling accurate.

Live tooling on every station

The BMT65 base-mounted servo turret has 12 stations, and all of them can take driven tools. This gives plenty of capacity for drills, end mills and taps alongside your turning tools.

Helix 2050 Y and 2550 Y

Both models have a 250 mm chuck, 4000 rpm spindle with 4.5 / 5.6 kW, 200 / 525 mm X / Z travel and turn up to 240 mm over the chuck (280 mm between centres). Bar capacity options of 65, 75 and 90 mm are available across the Helix family.

Options

Collet chucks, a hollow cylinder, a bar feeder, part catcher, steady rest, tool and work probes and automation solutions can be added. For turning-only work, the Helix offers a larger 360 mm turning diameter.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Y axis on a lathe used for?

A Y axis moves the turret perpendicular to X and Z, so driven tools can mill and drill off the spindle centre line: flats, slots, keyways and off-centre holes.

How much Y travel does the Helix Y have?

±50 mm on both the Helix 2050 Y and the Helix 2550 Y.

How many live tools can be used?

All 12 stations of the BMT65 servo turret accept live tools.

What is the maximum turning diameter?

240 mm over the chuck and 280 mm between centres.
