Product Overview
The BFW Orion series is the latest generation of BFW high-speed horizontal machining centres, developed through an Indo-German engineering cooperation. Every Orion comes with a rotary automatic pallet changer, so the next part is loaded while the current one is machined, and is engineered for high thermal stability in round-the-clock production.
Precision that stays stable
Roller guideways and precision ball screws on all linear axes, ball-screw core cooling on all three axes and thermo-friendly design features keep accuracy stable from the first part of the shift to the last. Absolute encoders, backlash and pitch-error compensation and Fanuc 0i-MF Plus control are standard.
A range for every part size
The series covers pallet sizes from 400 mm (H 4000, TH 4000) through H 5500, H 6600, H 8000 and H 8800 up to H 10000, H 12000 and the heavy 1250HP, which offers a 1250 × 1250 mm pallet, 1400 / 1200 / 1300 mm travels and 40 m/min rapids.
Designed for mass production
A dedicated bed frame and chip management, an overhead shower wash and a chip conveyor with trolley keep chips out of the machine. High axis and tool-changer dynamics shorten cycle times, while tool life management, energy-saving functions and safety interlocks support unattended running.
Options that secure the process
Add a 40- or 60-tool magazine, through-spindle coolant at 16 or 40 bar, linear scales, thermal compensation sensors, a direct-drive rotary table, a measuring probe, collision detection and iToolCaptain tool monitoring. For 5-axis work on the same platform, see the BFW Orion Fx.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a horizontal and a vertical machining centre?
On a horizontal machining centre the spindle is horizontal and the part sits on an indexing pallet, so four sides can be machined in one clamping and chips fall away from the part. HMCs usually have a pallet changer and suit higher volumes; VMCs are simpler and cheaper for single-face work.
Which pallet sizes does the BFW Orion range cover?
From 400 mm on the H 4000 / TH 4000 up to 1250 × 1250 mm on the Orion 1250HP.
Which CNC control does the Orion use?
Fanuc 0i-MF Plus with an 8.4-inch colour display is standard.
