A thermal upgrade restores – and often increases – the cooling capacity of an existing tower without building a new one. It starts with a thermal performance test to measure how far the tower is from its design, followed by the selection of new heat-transfer components and fans.
A thermal performance test to CTI practice measures water flow, temperatures, wet-bulb and fan power, and calculates the real capability of the tower. This shows how much capacity can be gained and gives a baseline for the guarantee.
Replacing old splash fill with modern film fill where the water quality allows, installing low-drift eliminators, new spray nozzles for even distribution and higher-efficiency FRP fans.
After the upgrade, a second test confirms the gain. Lower cold-water temperatures improve condenser vacuum in power plants and the efficiency of chillers and process coolers.
It depends on the existing tower. Towers with fouled or old fill often regain their full design capacity and sometimes more. The thermal test gives a reliable estimate.
