Product Overview

The BFW TCM series is a heavy-duty travelling-column machining centre for long and large components. A heavily ribbed base and column, roller guideways and a long fixed table allow heavy cutting with good surface finish and long-term accuracy, while the workpiece stays clamped in one place.

Long parts, one setup

With X travels of up to 4000 mm (TCM 5400) and 5000 mm (TCM 5500), up to 825 mm Y travel and 700 mm Z travel (1000 mm optional), the TCM machines long frames, beams and structural parts without re-clamping. The fixed table makes it easy to use several fixtures or to split the table into stations.

Modular 3-, 4- and 5-axis versions

The TCM is built as a modular, multi-tasking platform. Add a rotary table, a rotary table with tailstock, a rotary-tilting table, or combine stations. With a C axis embedded in the table and a tilting spindle, the TCM becomes a full 5-axis machine for complex large parts.

Power for heavy cutting

The TCM 4100–4500 use a BT40 spindle (HSK A63 optional). On the TCM 5100–5500, the BT50 spindle (HSK A100 optional) delivers 22 / 26 kW with Fanuc as standard and 37 / 55 kW as an option, so the machine can rough steel and cast iron and still finish to tight tolerances.

Other BFW machines for large parts

For heavy turned parts see the BFW BVL RL ram-spindle vertical lathe. For large prismatic parts on a horizontal spindle, see the Orion HMC series up to 1250 mm pallets.

Frequently asked questions

What is a travelling-column machining centre?

A machine where the column moves along the X axis over a fixed table. Heavy or long parts stay still, which improves accuracy and makes it practical to machine parts several metres long.

How long can parts be on the BFW TCM?

X travel goes up to 4000 mm on the TCM 5400 and 5000 mm on the TCM 5500.

Can the TCM do 5-axis machining?

Yes. With an embedded C axis in the table and a tilting spindle, the TCM can be configured for 5-axis work on large components.

Which tool holders does the TCM use?

BT40 (HSK A63 optional) on the TCM 4100–4500 and BT50 (HSK A100 optional) on the TCM 5100–5500.
